ACTIVITIES
In addition to our twice monthly meetings, we offer the moms in our group a number of Special Interest Groups such as Book Club, Bunco, Moms Movie Group, Fitness Club and Walking Club. We even have a Seasoned Moms Group for our members with school-age children. We also have Mom's Night Out (which is always a blast!) every one or two months. There are evenings of pampering and seasonal parties for members (the Christmas party always gets rave reviews!).
And for our moms that need a little help from their friends, we have the Care Committee. This committee lends a helping hand (through meals, running errands, moral support, etc.) to moms who have recently expanded their family or are in need of assistance due to special circumstances. This committee also helps moms celebrate anything that needs celebrating!
Our group has weekly playgroups that are great for developing the children's social skills as well as providing some much needed adult conversation during the day for mom. We also schedule many outings to different locations such as parks, zoos, orchards, museums, etc.
For some socializing without the kids, moms and their spouses or significant others enjoy Couples' Night Out, Wine Tastings, Beer Tastings, bowling, card games, and more! (It's always great to see that the guys have as much fun together as the gals do!)
Everyone in the family enjoys themselves at family nights whether it's a pizza party, sledding, or lounging around Reeds Lake soaking up the last minutes of summer. The annual Family Christmas Party (complete with a visit from Santa) and Easter Egg hunt are always among the kids' favorites.
Our chapter is involved in a variety of
activities that address the needs of women and families in
our community. Our members participate in local activities that
raise funds for worthy causes (such as the Fifth Third River Bank Run benefiting
the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids
"Strong Kids Campaign" in
Kent County and Race for the Cure benefiting
The Susan G Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation). During the 2006 holiday season, we provided gifts to
a foster child through Child and Family Services of Michigan's
Operation Good
Cheer and for Mother's Day in 2007 we cleaned out our closets for the
Working Women's Clothing
Closet at the Women's Resource Center. Events such as these offer us an opportunity to
give something back to our community in addition to being able to share these
values with our children.
